Recording: Museums and the Future Social Web. 20.1.2022 The Art Museum in the Digital Age conference

Recording of my talk “Museums and the Future Social Web” in Vienna at this year’s The Art Museum in the Digital Age conference in January 2022 organized by Belvedere Museum Wien:

In my talk I argue that the web offers social technologies beyond Google and Facebook, and ask how can we reclaim them? Museums played an important role in shaping the open digital sociality of the web in the 90s, and I believe they have an important role in the future of the internet.

We have to extend our understanding of digital social networks, for this I refer to theories by Shoshana Zuboff, Yuk Hui, Harry Halpin and Joanne Mcneil, and present platforms like Graph Commons and Wikidata.

A paper based on the talk will come out in The Routledge Companion to Photography, Representation and Social Justice.
